A knife-wielding teenager robbed a shopkeeper in broad daylight yesterday.
The man entered the newsagent on Handsworth Road near the junction with Richmond Road at around 1pm yesterday (Wednesday 17 February) threatening a member of staff and demanding cash from the till.
He fled the shop with a sum of money and is believed to have escaped down the alleyway of a nearby church.
The owner of neighbouring business Devonshire Motors said: “I was in Leeds at the time. The first thing I knew about it was when I came back and there were police cars everywhere.”
The robber is described as white, around 19 years old wearing a black hooded jacket and grey tracksuit bottoms with a stripe down the side.
A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “No one was injured during the incident but the shop worker was understandably left shaken by the incident.
“Did you witness the incident? Did you see anyone acting suspiciously in the area at around that time?”
Anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101.
