Two people have been killed and five seriously injured in a car crash on Snake Pass last night.
Two collisions occurred between the Strines junction and Ladybower at 9:50pm, with the driver of a white Honda, from Chesire, being pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of a black BMW, reportedly driving ‘erratically’ prior to the crash, died later in Northern General hospital.
The driver of the other vehicle, a silver Honda, was seriously injured and remains in hospital alongside the passengers involved in the crash.
An employee at The Snake Pass Inn, very near to the site of the crash, said: “I saw skid marks on the road on my way to work today.”
“There are crashes around this area all the time.”
The second collision involved a Vauxhall Corsa and Volkswagen Polo, which occurred following the initial collision, although no-one was seriously injured.
A spokeswoman for Derbyshire Police said: “The road was closed while emergency services worked to extract victims and clear debris. It was re-opened at 7am today.
“Police want to speak to anyone who saw the BMW driving in the area prior to the collision.”
Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting incident number 732 of May 15.
