Gruesome stories of gangs, murders and mysterious horrors are set to strike fear this Halloween as a Sheffield tour group delve deep into the secrets of the city.
Since 2005, Steel City Ghost Tours have run regular ghost walks every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, each night having its own unique set of stories and route, and it provides entertainment for the whole family.
The man who runs the tours, Mr P. Dreadful, played by Mr Darren Johnson Smith, said: “Our walks are enjoyable for everyone across the board. Family, children, adults, believers, and sceptics, although our Wednesday night tour is more adult based.
“On Wednesdays we provide a walking tour exploring the bloody, gruesome stories with more adult themes, which have sometimes seen people feint while they’re with us.
“All of our stories have been researched for six-months, and we have at least three eye-witness reports on every single one.”
Mr P. Dreadful has warned over what could be a chilling evening for visitors and first-timers to the ghost-hunting scene, he said: “Sometimes we have had ghosts photographed and seen by people on the tour but we don’t set anything up, so it’s often in the most random of places.
“We have had other strange things happen during our tours too, for example one night a white owl followed us around all night and hooted every time we tried to tell a story.”
With Halloween less than a week away now, Steel City Ghost Tours are in high demand for thrill-seekers all across Sheffield, young or old, and they have some special events planned for what is most likely the busiest day on their calendar.
“We have two tours on Halloween night; a family friendly tour between 7:30pm and 9:30pm, taking guests to some of the private tour stories which are often more suitable for children or the squeamish.
“After, between 10pm and 12:30pm we indulge into the crime and murder stories, along with some of the darker, more violent ghost tales.”
Costs for these tours are £5 for an adult, £4 for students or OAPs, and £2.50 for a child under the age of 13.
Also, the ‘Give it a Go’ scheme at the University of Sheffield’s Students’ Union are partnering up with Steel City Ghost Tours on Friday for a students-only ghost tour.
Tickets for this can be bought on the Sheffield Students’ Union website, or at the Students’ Union box office.
