Police appeal for witnesses after assault on Fitzwilliam Street

A man has been taken to hospital with serious facial injuries after he was attacked by a group of armed men.

The 25-year-old was with three friends when he was attacked close to the Washington pub on Fitzwilliam Street at 1.30am on Sunday morning.

The group of attackers consisted of ten men described as being Somalian and between the ages of 20 and 28-years-old. It is said that they were armed with knives and one of them was wearing a grey or white hooded top.

South Yorkshire Police are appealing for witnesses.

A black Fiat Punto is believed to have been driving through the area at the time and police are keen to speak to the driver of the car.
