Tom Starey, of Hunter’s Bar, has raised £875.19 on his JustGiving page for the Sheffield Hospitals Charity after he trekked the 96 mile West Highland Way.

His son, William, was born 10 weeks early and weighed only 4lbs; his twin cousins were also born prematurely.

William received care from the Jessop Wing at Sheffield’s Hallamshire Hospital. He is now five years old and is said to be “doing well.”

Mr Starey said: “It means a lot to me. The support I have received for the 24-hour MTB race I did, and the money my friends and family alike have raised for my cause. It certainly kept me going in the early hours. My wife and I cannot thank the staff at Jessops enough.”

The hospital supports families through all stages of pregnancy. This includes caring for critically ill and premature babies in one of the largest and most specialist, Neonatal Intensive Care Units in the country.
