KIER named preferred bidder for £23m school refurbishment

KIER, a leading property construction group have been named the preferred bidder to refurbish and reconstruct the new Woodside School for Sheffield City Council.

YORbuild2 scheme will see almost 9,000sq m of new education space built. The existing Pye Bank School building will be starting refurbishments in March this year, later followed by major construction through the summer. This will provide the school a further 1,800sq m of space.

When the refurbishment is complete, the school will be able to accommodate 1,200 pupils and provide first class education facilities.

KIER was one of the 46 firms picked in early 2016 to do the refurbishment, alongside with other big names such as ISG, Gallyford Try and Willmott Dixon.

John O’Callaghan, KIER construction Northern managing director, said: “we’re extremely pleased to be awarded this opportunity to provide a vital new school for Sheffield.”

KIER recently completed a new £8.5m North Active Leisure centre in Sheffield and has worked with the council for the past 12 years, providing repairs and maintenance services to council tenants.
