Storm Doris: Wind Speed of 71mph in Sheffield

23 February 2017

Record breaking wind speeds of 71mph have been recorded in Sheffield.

The wind speed was taken at the Met Office’s weather station in High Bradfield this morning as Storm Doris batters the region.

Winds have reached 94mph at Capel Curig in North West Wales as Storm Doris affects people from across the UK.

A spokesperson from the Met Office said: “South Yorkshire can expect to experience the highest wind speeds of storm Doris at about lunchtime today.”

The worst of the storm will pass this afternoon, but Sheffield will be met with cold temperatures as it clears.

The strong gales are expected to last well into the afternoon.

Storm Doris is likely to cause widespread travel disruption as well as some structural damage.

Long periods of heavy rain will accompany the strong winds.

Here are some of the difficulties Sheffield people had to face today.
