Arsonists have caused chaos across South Yorkshire overnight by lighting a series of fires, ShefNews has the latest updates:
Wheelie bins in Wingfield Road, Rotherham were set alight yesterday evening at 7.15pm, taking firefighters 30 minutes to tackle the blaze.
A patch of grass was also set alight in Skye Edge Avenue, Manor, at 7.30pm.
Arsonists set fire to two wheelie bins in Chestnut Avenue, Doncaster, at 7.45pm.
A pile of litter was set alight on the Trans Pennine Trail in Lundwood, Barnsley, at 9pm.
A motorbike was set alight in Coleridge Gardens, Tinsley, at 9.45pm.
This follows a spate of arson incidents over the weekend, with a scooter in Nuttall Place, Sheffield, and a motorbike in Southey Green Road, Sheffield, both being set alight at noon on Sunday.
South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue issue advice on their website on preventing arson, stating: “Even small deliberate fires, like bin and rubbish fires, can quickly spread and put lives and property in danger.”
Their advice to prevent arson is:
- Put bins out early on the morning of collection, rather than the night before
- Take bins from the kerbside as soon as you can after they have been emptied
- Store bins and rubbish away from buildings, but within the boundary of your property
