South Yorkshire holidaymakers warned about British Airways scam spreading on Facebook

South Yorkshire Facebook users have been informed of a fake British Airways post circulating on the website.

The scam sweeping across the social media site, notifies users of a £500 discount on flights in celebration of the airline’s anniversary.

Facebook users are invited to click on a link which is part of a competition claimed to be ran by British Airways accompanied with a code and what appears to look like the actual airline’s logo.

However, the link is actually a malware site intended to steal personal information from potential customers.

A BA spokesperson told the Sheffield Star: “We provide and regularly update extensive guidance to our customers on how to spot, report and safeguard against fraudulent activity. We also immediately update ba.com to warn our customers about any particular examples of illegal activity targeting the public via social media”.
