Woman suffers racial abuse on Sheffield bus journey

A woman has been racially abused while taking a bus in Sheffield.

Police officers are making a fresh call for witnesses to come forward about an incident of racial abuse that took place on Monday 23 April, at around 6:05PM on bus 51 from Crosspool to Sheffield City Centre.

The man directed a racial remark towards the woman as she was on her phone, before leaving the bus at Broomhill. They both boarded the bus at Sandygate Road bus stop.

Officers have described the man as white and in his 50s, with clean-shaven hair, tattooed hands and neck, and a heavily bandaged left arm.

The incident comes in the wake of a report by South Yorkshire Police, stating that hate crimes have increased by 200% in the last five years.
