Barnsley Farm Fire that killed pigs now being investigated as arson

A Barnsley farm in Cudsworth suffered heavy damages last night in a fire that is currently being investigated as an arson case.

The fire took two hours to quell, and a number of pigs in the barn were killed in the blaze.

The roof of the building appears to be where the fire was started, and extensive damages to the entire building have been reported.

South Yorkshire Police and South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue are looking into the cause of the fire, as they believe that it was deliberate.

Investigating officer Detective Inspector Mark Monteiro said: “This incident has caused extreme distress to the farmer owner and we are committed to establishing the exact circumstances.”

Fire services were called at 7.30pm, but the source of the call is still unknown.

The barn is located on BleachCroft Farm, Barnsley Road.

The fire services have nothing to suggest a flux of arson within Cudsworth, and are treating it as a isolated case.

Anyone with information should report it via 101 quoting incident number 861 of 15 May.

Anonymous information can also be given to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

More information will be added as it comes in.
