A Sheffield Foodbank has said they are desperate for toiletries and hygiene products to be donated as well as food parcels.
The S6 Foodbank tweeted: “We literally have a mountain of pasta and beans, but no washing up liquid or fruit juice. Cash donations are vital.”
The local charity provide nutritional balanced emergency food and support to local people in need and are part of the Nationwide network of foodbanks supported by The Trussell Trust.
One in five of the UK population are below the poverty line and according to The Trussell Trust’s latest report the top reasons for referral to a foodbank are low income, benefit delay and changes and debt.
Independent Food Aid Network are also calling for the public to recognise the significance of other donations.
They tweeted: “The value of vouchers and cash donations to food banks and frontline food aid providers cannot be underestimated- food bank managers and volunteers know which food items are needed most.”
In 2017 and 2018 12,955 tonnes of food were donated to Trussel Trust foodbanks but they are also in need of other essential provisions.
