A new one-of-a-kind cafe and dog training centre has opened in Darnall, making it the first of its kind in Yorkshire.
Claire Fullwood, 45, and her fiance Neil Losada, 48, opened Best Behaviour K9, their second dog training school, on 4th May on Catley Road, nearly three years after the opening of their first school in Barnsley.
This time, they decided to open up an adjoining cafe, The Coffee Kennel, suitable for man and his best friend.
Claire, co-owner of the Best Behaviour K9 training centres, said, “It’s hard to find places that are dog-friendly around here, which is one of the reasons why we wanted to open this cafe.
“There are lots of kids play areas with adjoining cafe’s, so why can’t it be that way for dogs?”
Best Behaviour K9 have helped train thousands of dogs of all different breeds, and even offer house visits.
“We also help dogs who are at risk of being put down or rehomed because of their behaviour. We help the owners understand their dogs’ and help rehabilitate them.
“We offer a range of training services, from puppy to advanced classes in obedience, agility and scent work. Neil is a former police dog handler, and has over 20 years of experience with dog behaviour.”
Whilst the dogs are being trained, owners can watch through the glass windows as they enjoy a cup of tea. The cafe also has treats for the dogs themselves, including a “puppichino,” and offers locally sourced coffee and food, along with delicious homemade cakes.
After a renovation which they completed themselves, the cafe officially opened last week, and the turnout was “amazing.”
Claire said, “Hundreds of people turned up, and you couldn’t move through the cafe. A lot of our clients from Barnsley turned up to support us, and we had stands from various charities up in the main area. We had to stop serving because we ran out of food.”
The cafe is open from 8.30am to 3.30pm, Monday to Friday and 8am until 5.30pm on Saturday.
Classes officially start on Saturday 11th May. For more information, visit their Facebook page “The Coffee Kennel,” or visit their website at http://www.coffeekennel.co.uk
