Fundraiser Michael ‘Mik’ Parkin is putting pressure on UK support groups to fundraise for dangerous cladding to be removed from buildings nationwide.
Mik, who is due to finish his Sheffield to Grenfell run at 6pm today, said more needs to be done by groups such as Grenfell United and UK Cladding Action Group to put plans into action.
His comments come after the government announced that ministers are ready to fund replacement of combustible Grenfell-style cladding.
Mounting public anger means there’s more pressure than ever on the government and fundraising groups to supply hundreds of millions to help.
Mik, 46, has been running since 4th May and is aiming to finish the 163 mile journey tonight.
He said: “Grenfell is one of the worst things that could have happened, but sometimes when terrible things happen it brings out the best in people and it really bought out the best of people all across the story supporting us.
There’s a lot of pressure and groups like Grenfell United and North of the Uk Cladding Action Group. It’s been fabulous to have worked with them along the way and we want to make sure that the promise of making people’s houses safer is actually delivered.”
