A Sheffield charity food kitchen has celebrated 28 years of helping homeless people in the city.
The Sunday Centre is a volunteer run organisation in Sheffield feeding the homeless and vulnerable every Sunday.
Not many food banks or shelters are open on weekends, and The Sunday Centre aims to fill that gap.
The food bank, located on Victoria Hall Methodist Church, Norfolk Street, is run by volunteers. The system operates by putting those interested onto a mailing list, then they are contacted each week to mark their availability to help out that weekend.
The non-profit organisation opens at 1:30 in the afternoon and serves the guests with a two-course choice of drinks and hot meals, even including vegetarian options.
Before they close at four in the afternoon they offer activities and for accommodate for the guests “to chat among themselves or with volunteers, read books & newspapers and play board games or snooker”.
