Construction has finally begun on a new £5-million stadium for two of Sheffield’s main sports teams.
Sheffield United Women’s Football Club have shared the Olympic Legacy Stadium with the Sheffield Eagles since 2018, but the clubs have now outgrown the ground and will soon move to a new home.
Upon completion, the facility is set to hold 3,900 people and boast conference facilities, office spaces covering an approximate total of one hectare of land.
Richard Caborn, former sports minister and leader of the Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park project, told Insider Media: “This latest development is another major step forward for sport in our city.”
Mr Caborn also expressed his excitement in seeing the building process begin, and realising the completion of his legacy through sport.
Fans have chimed in across social media to express their delight with the news that construction of the stadium has finally begun.
