WATCH: Foodbank figures fly for South Yorkshire as one in five of the UK population now live below the poverty line

“The effects of the pandemic have increased the ruthless burden on food banks across the South Yorkshire”, S6 Foodbank volunteer Alison Wise said. As worrying figures show the Sheffield based charity has fed 37,000 local people in the food emergency recorded from April 2020- March 2021, as one in five of the UK population now live below the poverty line.

Alison describes the relentless strain she has seen first hand and compares the battle against food poverty as a ‘firefight’, as the S6 foodbank network has gone from four sites a year ago to recently opening up its 12th.

People can find the foodbank by following them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, or by visiting the S6 Foodbank website
