Ten days of UCU staff strikes ended yesterday with a student walkout.
Hundreds of staff and their supporters from both Sheffield universities gathered at City Hall, for speeches from union representatives and students.
The crowd then marched up to the Students Union, where students and staff ran free teaching sessions on topics including ‘NHS in crisis’, ‘Institutional barriers to gender inequality’, and ‘Do strikes work?’.
Dr Robyn Orfitelli, a UCU negotiator and lecturer at the University of Sheffield, said: “I think the last 10 days have gone amazingly well, but this is definitely not over. We will have to take more action, but the employers could end this any day they want to.”
The University of Sheffield is yet to comment on statements made against them at the demonstration.
