Sheffield Wednesday vs Cambridge United – League One match preview

10 March 2022

Sheffield Wednesday will host Cambridge United in their three o’clock Sky Bet League One fixture this Saturday.

The Owls are hoping to move back into the play-off positions while the visitors look to leapfrog Accrington Stanley into the top-half of the table.

Wednesday come into this game having won three of the last four – their latest fixture being a surprising loss to Lincoln City.

Darren Moore’s side drew level after conceding in the third minute, but goals from Brook Norton-Cuffy and John Marquis sealed the deal for Lincoln.

After the defeat, Moore said: “It was just a bridge too far for us today – we weren’t our normal selves.”

“I’ve said to the players we’ve got to try and bounce back.”

“We’ve bounced back before in games against Oxford and Rotherham and gone on good runs so we have to look for the same response.”

Both teams will be looking to get back to winning ways after their last outings.

Cambridge United have struggled for consistency recently which has seen them fall into the bottom half of the table.

Being held to a goalless draw last weekend against Shrewsbury, Mark Bonner’s side has taken only eight points from their last six fixtures.

For Sheffield Wednesday, midfielder George Byres should be available for the weekend despite being taken last time out – this was done as a precautionary measure for the player.

On the other hand, the U’s welcomed back Joe Ironside last weekend to mark his first appearance since getting injured in January.

The U’s Jubril Okedina and Wes Hoolahan were also brought into the starting eleven against Shrewsbury – changes made down to form which Bonner may look to keep after good performances in their previous outing.

Wednesday and Cambridge shared the points in their last meeting in October’s game which finished 1-1.
