Doncaster’s oldest pub finalising its beer garden extension.

‘The Salutation pub’, Doncaster, has revealed that its three-month extension is almost complete, with just the final touches left to be made.

The family-owned pub, on South Parade street, began the extension of the fourth of January, with the aim of attracting more people to the business.

The new beer garden will have more seating, along with a glass and steel canopy and an outside bar with cocktails on draught.

Assistant manager Jenny Wilsdon, 19, said: “We’ve invested a lot into this extension but I’m sure it will pay off.

“The decision to do this started in October last year. Not only will it help the business, but it will also help our inside staff so much.”

The garden will now be twice the size of the previous beer garden.

Jenny began working at The Salutation with her brother as soon as her parents took over the pub around six years ago.

Her brother, Joshua Wilsdon, 28, said: “It’s one of the oldest pubs in Doncaster, so it deserves to be busy!”

The Wilsdon family have invested in a pizza oven, and a new projector which is three times the size of the previous one.

The Salutation is named the best pub in Doncaster by local residents.

Jenny said: “It’s the people that make the pub but we just couldn’t have imagined how big it was going to become. I’m amazed.”

Their Thai restaurant which sits above the pub was named ‘restaurant of the year 2019’  in the Eastside Restaurant awards, attracting even more customers to the pub downstairs.

Megan Pollard, a 19-year-old student said: “as a returning customer, it’s clear to see how much the salutation has grown.

“It’s the go-to spot for me and all of my friends.”

Jenny said that the pub is a good mix of the older locals, but also the ideal spot for the younger generation.

It’s perfect whether you’re looking for a pint, some good traditional Thai food, or even both at once.
