Sheffield Varsity 2022 Sports Park day proved to be a great day of sporting rivalry after a long two-year wait.
On Wednesday, the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University went head-to-head in football, hockey and rugby on one of the biggest days of Varsity.
Due to restraints caused by the pandemic, the event had to be cancelled for the last two years – so its return this year has been widely anticipated by students.
In the two weeks of fierce competition, around 1,000 students will take part in over 70 sporting events held at venues across the city, with more than 15,000 spectators cheering them on.
Coincidentally, this year also marks the 25th anniversary of Varsity, which makes it even more special for both universities.
