Swimmers are calling for a swimming ban at a Sheffield park lake to be lifted.
Owen Haeman, a member of Sheffield Outdoor Plungers, spoke about the restrictions at Crookes Valley Park lake.
After the removal of safety posters at the park, Owen Haeman and other swimmers believe Sheffield Council’s current ban on swimming there will do more harm than good.
Owen Haeman said: “Water safety based on fear has not particularly worked. We have this priceless free resource on our doorstep. The council has a legal duty to help people live healthier lifestyles.”
South Yorkshire fire chiefs continue to warn people about the dangers of open water. The council has previously said the ban will remain for public safety.
