This weekend, Sheffield’s only e-sports bar, Meltdown, celebrated its third birthday after the last two years of continued lockdowns halted all anniversary plans.
The French bar chain opened its Sheffield branch on May 11, 2019, and it has been popular with the city’s huge gaming community ever since.
One such nerd and a regular patron, Joe Warner, 22, said: “Before the pandemic I only got to go to Meltdown once for my friend’s birthday, about a week before the first lockdown. Even though I’d only been there once, I definitely found myself missing it and wishing I could go back.
“I felt like I’d discovered a place that was specifically made for me so I’m really glad Meltdown is open again and doing well.”
